The Covington-Douglas Wildcat weightlifting team has worked hard and did very well this season. Four members have qualified for state. Those include: Tare Simpson, Allen Wilson, Jessie Thayer and Lawrence Kirk. These members will compete in the State meet at McCloud.
The Covington Historical Society met March 5 at Tri County Center for its monthly meeting. Gerald Pope read bylaws of the Cherokee Strip Museum Historical group of Perry. The Covington Historical group worked on and adopted bylaws for the Covington Historical Society.
The Society will be selling chances on a homemade German chocolate cake that will be given away after 2 p.m. March 23.
The society is sponsoring an Oklahoma Token and Indian Artifacts Show, along with a Bake and Plant sale at the Tri County Senior Center on W. Main in Covington on March 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is invited.
Keith Bolz brought the Society a signed book, “Oklahoma Exonumia,” which he had co-written. The other authors also had signed the book. The society had purchased the book earlier, and it now will now be on display at the Covington Historical Museum, housed in the west room of the Tri County Senior Center. The book has pictures of tokens from every town in Oklahoma.
Members attending included: Zoe and Herb Bolz, Keith Bolz, Arba and Gerald Pope, Linda Postier, Susan Grantz, Dorothy Murphy and Viva Nida.
Monday: The Lady Cats softball team will host Coyle and Geary, and the Wildcat baseball team will travel to Pioneer, with all games starting at 4 p.m.
Tuesday: The Lady Cats softball team will travel to Crescent, with a game at 4:30 p.m. The junior high baseball team will host Cimarron and the junior high softball team will host Aline-Cleo, with games starting at 4:30 p.m.
Thursday: The Wildcats baseball team will travel to Pond Creek-Hunter, with the game at 5 p.m. The junior high baseball team will participate in the Pioneer Tournament through March 17. The High School track team will travel to Hominy for a meet. The junior high softball team will travel to Garber for a 4 p.m. game.
Friday: No school, Professional Day. The Lady Cats softball team will host their annual Softball Festival along with Waukomis, Okeene and OBA.
March 18: Spring Break begins for Covington-Douglas. The Lady Cats softball team will travel to Ringwood.
March 19: The Wildcats baseball team will host Shidler and Ringwood.
March 20-26: The Oklahoma Youth Expo starts in Oklahoma City, with many FFA and 4-H’ers participating.
March 21-22: the Wildcats Baseball team will participate in the Union City Baseball Festival.
March 23: The Wildcats baseball team will play at the Brick in Oklahoma City against Seiling at 11 a.m.
