Enid Public Schools is seeking new board member

ENID, Okla. — The search for a new Enid Public Schools Board of Education member is on.

An appointee is needed in the wake of the resignation of Colleen Arnold, a member of the board since 2008. Arnold resigned from the board last month to take a librarian position at St. Paul’s Lutheran School.

“Her replacement will serve the remainder of her term, which ends in February,” said Amber Fitzgerald, EPS human resources and communications director.

Karl White, EPS chief financial officer, said if the person who fills the remainder of Arnold’s term wants to remain on the school board beyond February, he or she will need to file for election during the first week of December.

“It would be a good opportunity for someone to give it a trial run,” White said.

To qualify for appointment, the candidate has to be a registered voter and must have lived in the boundary of school board Office 6 for six months prior to appointment.

Office 6 is bounded by Oxford Avenue on the north. The eastern boundary runs south along Glendale to Willow, then west to Cleveland, then south along Cleveland to Randolph, then east along Randolph to Hoover, and south along Hoover to Garriott. Garriott from Hoover to Oakwood is the south boundary of the district.

The western boundary runs from Garriott north along Oakwood to Chestnut, then west along Chestnut to Quail Creek Drive, then north along Quail Creek to Lakewood, then west to Constitution, then north along Constitution to Oxford.

“There will be a committee of board members to consider the candidates and make a recommendation to the board,” White said. “It takes the whole board.”

A couple of people have expressed interest so far and have been passed along to the president of the school board, Willa Jo Fowler.

“I’ve had two inquiries that I referred to Mrs. Fowler, but one later decided she traveled too much for her job,” White said.

The candidate cannot have been convicted of, or pleaded guilty or no contest to, a felony or a misdemeanor involving embezzlement; must have a high school diploma; and cannot be an employee of the district, be married to an employee or have brothers or sisters who are employees.

Anyone interested can call White at the Central Office at (580) 366-7000.
