Letter carriers to hold 21st annual food drive

ENID, Okla. — Letter carriers from Enid post office will collect non-perishable food items from residents Saturday as part of the 21st annual Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers Food Drive.

The event has collected more than 3 million pounds of food for local food banks in Oklahoma. The food collected in Enid is donated to Horn of Plenty. In-town and rural carriers will participate.

Residents who wish to help are asked to fill a plastic bag with canned food and non-perishable food items and leave it next to their mail boxes. Items most needed this year are canned meats, canned fruit, peanut butter and jelly, cereal, macaroni and cheese and powdered milk. Cash donations also are appreciated and can be left in an envelope marked with Horn of Plenty on the outside, or sent to Horn of Plenty, P.O. Box 5583, Enid, OK 73702-5583.

Most of the carriers will arrive back at the post office between 2 and 5 p.m., and volunteers will unload the carriers’ vehicles and load the food onto a truck donated by Salvation Army to be taken to Horn of Plenty.
