OBI making blood donations a priority for Fourth of July

ENID, Okla. — Facing concerns about keeping the blood supply strong during the Fourth of July holiday weekend, Oklahoma Blood Institute is urging Enid residents to make donation a priority.

An All-American blood drive will occur at Oakwood Mall in the center court across from Chen Garden at 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Donors will enjoy free hot dogs, chips and drinks. Two tickets to the July 24 Oklahoma City RedHawks baseball game will be awarded to each person who gives.

Each blood donor also will receive a limited-edition, All-American blood donor T-shirt and two free tickets to the Oklahoma City Zoo. One donor will win $107.10 in gas from KNID. Anyone 16 and older and generally in good health likely can donate blood.

“Holidays put incredible stress on the blood supply for patients in our state,” said John Armitage, M.D., Oklahoma Blood Institute president and chief executive. “We are grateful for all donors who can take time during the holiday week to help Oklahomans who will need blood through the summer.”
