ENID, Okla. —
The fifth annual Pioneer Cellular Candy Cane Dash will be Saturday, with registration beginning at about 7:30 a.m. Pioneer mascot Pardner also may be on hand.
“This is for the running community,” said Frank Baker, director of Eagle Marketing. “People are encouraged to wear a Christmas costume. In the past, we’ve had everything from elves and trees to Joseph and a manger.”
Those participating in the 5k dash should wear a costume they can run in, he said. The event begins at 8 a.m. and will be finished in time for the Candy Cane Cash drawing at 9 a.m. Sign-ups are available through getmeregistered.com or before the event.
T-shirts will be presented to the first 125 runners, and the first-place male and female runners will receive a $100 prize. The winning costume, as determined by a vote of the crowd attending, also will receive a $100 prize. Winners will be determined by crowd applause.
Runners will gather in front of the Public Library of Enid and Garfield County, said Glenn McDaniel, run coordinator and store manager of Wheat Capitol Running Co. The run will start and end downtown, Baker said. About 50 people already have signed up.
The run will begin in front of the Enid library and proceed east along a marked route to about 16th, then back to the library. The route will be supported by Enid police.
