Okeene man hospitalized after auto accident

ENID, Okla. — An Okeene man was hospitalized after being injured in a one-vehicle accident early Monday morning in Blaine County.

Michael Dean Thurman, 23, was flown to Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City and admitted in stable condition with leg and neck injuries, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.

The accident happened at 1 a.m. Monday on a county road in Blaine County.

According to the report, Thurman was a passenger in a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Thomas Dale Leonard, 23, of Okeene. Leonard was driving east on the county road when his vehicle went off the south side, hit a ditch and rolled one-half time, coming to rest on its top. Thurman was partially ejected.

The report lists the condition of the driver as “odor of alcoholic beverage” and the cause as “alcohol-DUI.” Leonard was wearing a seat belt, but Thurman was not, according to the report.
