Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma receives grant

ENID — Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma has received a grant to purchase food and household products to meet increased demand in the state.

Emergency family boxes, containing food and household products, are designed to provide short-term relief for low-income families for up to seven days. Boxes must be distributed by early September.

Any household with a child age 18 or under and that is at 185 percent of poverty level or below is eligible to receive emergency family boxes. For example, a family of four that makes less than $3,400 a month would qualify. If a family participates in WIC, SoonerCare, SNAP (food stamps) or free or reduced-price schools meals, they are eligible for the boxes.

Agencies in Enid receiving  boxes to distribute to residents are:

• Shepherd’s Cupboard at Bethany United Methodist Church, 931 E. Maple. Shepherd’s Cupboard will receive 1,200 boxes per month — 800 food and 400 household items.

• North Garland Church of Christ, 703 N. Garland, will receive nearly 600 boxes per month — 400 food and 200 household items.

North Garland Church of Christ is distributing it first batch of emergency family boxes 12:30-2 p.m. Monday.

Participants will be able to sign up at the donation site.
