German stew lunch is Saturday at Helena museum
A German stew lunch, pie and cake contest will be Saturday at Helena Historical Museum.
Pie and cake entries will be accepted 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Ribbons will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners, and the grand champion will receive a gift certificate from Garden Gate Gifts.
Lunch will be served beginning at 11 a.m. and includes homemade German stew, drink and dessert. The HHS annual meeting will be at 11:30 a.m., followed by an auction of the top winning pie and cake entries.
The museum will be open to visitors 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with several new exhibits on display.
Children’s author to visit library Saturday afternoon
Children’s author Katy Kelly will visit Public Library of Enid and Garfield County 2-4 p.m. Saturday.
She is the author of the “Melonhead” series of children’s books, which are based near the Capitol in Washington, D.C., where she grew up and still lives. Melonhead is based on Kelly’s brother, and his life is filled with antics that lead to disasters in his wake.
In addition to writing children’s books, Kelly has worked as a feature writer for USA Today and an editor at U.S. News magazine.
The author will have copies of her books available at the event for purchase for cash only. She also will sign copies of her books.
Sewing Doll Clothes workshop slated Oct. 9
Two sessions of Sewing Doll Clothes for 18-inch dolls (such as the American Doll), will be held from 1-3 and 5:30-7 p.m. Oct. 9, at Garfield County OSU Extension Center. Georgie Haltom will be the instructor, assisted by OHCE members.
The classes are open to the public at no cost. Along with patterns and instructions, a limited supply of materials will be available. Participants are encouraged to bring a basic sewing kit, a variety of small pieces of fabric and matching thread. The classes are designed for those with beginning to advanced sewing skills. The OSU Extension Center is located at 316 E. Oxford in Enid (237-1228).
