Enid Regional Development Alliance will continue a program aimed at bringing a talented work force to Enid through online ads.
ERDA board members agreed to purchase 50 “help wanted” ads in conjunction with the Enid News & Eagle and Monster.com. The ads will be available for ERDA’s members.
Each ad typically would cost a business more than $200, ERDA Executive Director Brent Kisling said.
“Since we’re pre-buying all of those spots, it’s a significant savings for our membership,” he said.
The advertisements, which will appear in print and online, are meant to entice workers from outside the Enid area.
“When you’ve got a 3.4 percent unemployment rate, you can’t just steal employees from the business down the street. You’ve got to bring new people in,” Kisling said.
The program is a continuation, although it lapsed for about six months to gauge its effectiveness.
“We were just overwhelmed with requests from our members to keep doing it,” he said.
There already are 20 requests by employers to place an ad. The program begins Dec. 1 and continues for one year.
During ERDA’s regular meeting Thursday, the board also heard the results of an annual financial audit and considered changing a key budget policy to clarify over-budget spending.
The policy would have allowed ERDA staff to have expenditures within 10 percent of the budgeted amount without board approval, but it was not adopted.
“It’s really not broke,” Kisling. “We alert the board whenever there’s variances in the budget, provide rationale for why that might have happened, and if the board wants to take action, they certainly can.”
The board met in executive session but did not take any action after returning. The next meeting of ERDA is Dec. 12 at Autry Technology Center.�
