Enid man sentenced to 120 years for child sexual abuse, molestation

ENID, Okla. — An Enid man who pleaded guilty in April to two counts of child sexual abuse and a single count of lewd molestation was sentenced Friday to 120 years in prison.

Ronald Allen Fletcher, 50, was sentenced by Associate District Judge Tom Newby.

Fletcher pleaded guilty April 8 to the three charges.

Fletcher was charged in October 2012 with the abuse of two girls, ages 4 and 6, sometime during 2012.

Fletcher was charged in February with lewd molestation, for allegedly inappropriately touching an 8-month-old girl in 2008.

Enid Police Department Detective John Robinson testified that when Fletcher spoke with about the incident involving the children, he admitted his guilt. However, Robinson said Fletcher was “minimizing” his guilt by indicating the children had acted toward him.

Fletcher’s attorney, Ron Jones, asked Robinson whether Fletcher had cooperated with police in their investigation.

“He did cooperate,”  Robinson said, “but he was minimizing.”

Jones called Fletcher’s father and two church officials who’ve known Fletcher for years.

All of the men said the charges against Fletcher surprised them and seemed out of character. Each of the men also commented about Fletcher’s honesty.

Assistant District Attorney Irene Asai asked Newby to sentence Fletcher to 50 years on each of the three counts.

In her argument, she reminded the court a presentencing investigation noted Fletcher lamented how the charges against him had ruined his life, but showed little regard for the victims.

Jones called the state’s recommendations for sentencing “very harsh.”

“We have a defendant charged with some serious crimes but with no prior criminal history,” Jones said. He noted the presentencing investigation also showed “there is a low-range risk for re-offending.”

Jones argued there was more help, such as treatment and classes, for Fletcher outside of Department of Corrections custody, which also was indicated the presentencing report.

Prior to sentencing, Newby noted the three charges all require 85 percent of the sentence be served before consideration for any parole or early release.

He ordered Fletcher to serve 40 years on each count, to be served consecutively, as well as pay court costs, jail fees and other court-mandated fees and fines. Fletcher will be given credit for time served.
