Volunteers needed for Join Hands Day

A group of volunteers in Enid is striving to make a difference in the community and is asking for additional help.

The volunteer project will take place Saturday on Join Hands Day, a national day of service sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America and other fraternal benefit societies.

Volunteers in Enid will repaint the USA map and hopscotch area at Hoover Elementary School. They will work from 10 a.m. to noon.

Join Hands Day is the only national day of service designed to bring youths and adults together to plan and implement volunteer service projects in their communities.

“Modern Woodmen is proud of the thousands of volunteers nationwide who give back on Join Hands Day,” said Steve VanSpeybroeck, Modern Woodmen’s fraternal director. “We’re encouraging local community organizations to join hands with us in 2013.”

Dianne Burris, project coordinator for the local initiative, agreed.

“We want to make a difference in our community on May 4. By connecting with others, we can make an even greater impact,” she said.

For information, or to volunteer time to help with the local Join Hands Day project, call Burris at 242-4549, or go to mod ern-woodmen.org.
