Man killed in a head-on collision in Grant County

ENID, OK — A Haskell County man was killed this morning in a head-on collision just south of Four Corners in Grant County.

Steven Wayne Lynn, 49, of Keota, was transported to Integris Bass Baptist Hospital in Enid following the 6:25 a.m. collision, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report. Lynn was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Lynn was driving a 2005 Chevy pickup southbound on U.S. 81 two-tenths of a mile south of Four Corners, or about four miles west and .2 miles south of Pond Creek.

Richard Lee Bates, 34, of Enid, was passing another vehicle in the fog in a 1998 Jeep Grande Cherokee when he impacted Lynn’s vehicle head-on. Lynn was pinned for about an hour before being extricated by Pond Creek Fire Department.

Bates and his passengers, Lonnie Michael Tegard, 34, and Robert Eugene Bates, 35, both of Enid, were taken by ambulance to Bass and treated and released, according to the patrol.

Richard Bates suffered head and internal injuries, Robert Bates suffered an arm injury and Tegard suffered a head injury.

The report lists the cause of the collision as “left of center - other” and described the weather conditions as foggy. No one involved in the collision was wearing their seatbelts.
