ENID, Okla. — Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse is preparing to finish the summer in style with the fourth annual Enid Mack Motor Mania event on Aug. 25.

As part of the event, Leonardo’s is seeking all types of vehicles to participate.

“In the past we have had a fire truck, a police car, new cars, several city of Enid vehicles, ambulance, race cars, tow trucks, a bucket truck, motorcycles, ATVs, RVs, farm equipment and even a hearse,” said Tabitha Buller, event coordinator. “It allows children to get up close and personal to vehicles they have only seen in books.

“This year, we are adding something new,” Buller said. “Children get to actually take a car apart, thanks to our friends at Southside Recycling. It’s fun, it’s something children are usually not allowed to do, and it also promotes our new Tinkering traveling exhibit inside the museum.”

Tinkering is the eighth traveling exhibit to visit Leonardo’s as part of the Oklahoma Museum Network, funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation.

All those who show vehicles will receive a free family pass to visit Leonardo’s another day. Additionally, sponsor Troy Phillips, owner of Enid Mack Sales, will be on hand cooking free hamburgers for all who attend. The event is from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 25 and will conclude with a truck parade” led by an Enid fire truck.

There also will be face painting and door prizes presented throughout the event. The cost to attend is $3 for Leonardo’s members and $6 for non-members and includes all-day admission to the museum and Adventure Quest. Adventure Quest will open at noon, immediately following the parade, and remain open (weather permitting) until 8 p.m.

Phillips also will have on hand a refurbished 1964 Mack truck, which was the first truck purchased by his father, the late Les Phillips, when he went into business.

“We welcome all makes and models of motorized vehicles,” Buller said. “One thing, we would really like, but have never been able to find, is a monster truck. We like to add new vehicles each year.”
