Winners announced in Chili Cook-Off

ENID, Okla. — It was a blast from the past Friday at the Cherokee Strip Conference Center during the United Way of Enid and Northwest Oklahoma’s 25th Annual Chili Cook-Off.

Nearly 40 participants faced off in the annul fundraising event, which raised $20,487 last year.

This year’s winners were announced throughout the event in four categories.

Top Dollar Chili went to Groendyke Transport, Inc., which raised $5,085.75 for the United Way. Second place went to Central National Bank and Messer-Bowers Co. took third.

Judge’s Choice Chili belonged to Oklahoma Natural Gas, with the Boy Scouts of America Cimarron Council taking second and Booker T. Washington Center taking third.

Garfield County Health Department won best booth for its totally 80s design. Groendyke Transport, Inc. took second in the booth competition and Oklahoma Blood Institute won third.

Healthiest chili, a category new to the competition this year, was won by KC Electric. Denny Price Family YMCA took second and Lion’s Club took third.

United Way Executive Director Sean Byrne called this year’s event a “tremendous success.”

“We had a great turnout and the weather was perfect chili weather,” he said. “I think it was a successful year.”
