NOC charting a 5-year course

ENID, Okla. — About 60 people gathered in Enid Wednesday to help Northern Oklahoma College chart the course for the next five years.

The agenda and ground rules were laid in the first of what will be three town hall meetings at Enid as part of NOC’s strategic planning process.

Sal Rinella and Jolene Koester, from Penson Associates, a California-based research and consultation firm, were on hand to lay out ideas for making a plan.

Penson Associates will not draw up the plan, Koester said. Instead, they will guide and facilitate the conversations that will give rise to the completed plan, which will be released in late April or May 2013. Two more rounds of town hall meetings at NOC campuses in Tonkawa, Enid and Stillwater will be held.

“We are going to be back the end of November,” Koester said.

The third town hall meeting will be at the end of January, she said.

Following each meeting, the 11-member strategic planning committee will work with the information and ideas gathered at the town hall meetings to fine tune the plan.

“We begin from the strengths, the opportunities and the promise,” Koester said.

Cheryl Evans, president of NOC, said the goal is to have a plan that is inclusive, meaningful and guides both policy and financial decisions in the future.

“We want to listen to you as stakeholders,” Evans said. “We also want to identify what might be potential barriers in the future.”
