'Equipment failure' led to Pioneer outages

ENID, Okla. — Pioneer Cellular 3G customers lost service Wednesday evening for nearly six hours due to an equipment malfunction.

According to a statement from the company, at 5:26 p.m. Wednesday, Pioneer Cellular experienced a systemwide outage affecting all Pioneer Cellular customers. The Pioneer Cellular 3G network experienced an equipment failure, which overloaded the system.

“The system redundancy failed due to the overload causing the outage,” according to the statement. “Pioneer Cellular 4G LTE data was unaffected.

Technicians responded and restored service to all customers, the release said. Most of the system was restored at about 11:30 p.m.

The company apologized for any inconvenience the outage may have caused.

Cindy Gore, Pioneer media relations specialist, said refunds for customers would be addressed on an individual basis. Those with questions can contact the company about their accounts.

Gore urged customers to follow the Pioneer Telephone Co-op Facebook page to keep informed about service and maintenance upgrades.

“It’s a great way for customers to stay in the know,” Gore said. “That’s the quickest way for us to disseminate the information we have. We consistently keep that posted.”
