YWCA Enid showing videos every Tuesday night in April

ENID, Okla. — Every Tuesday in the month of April at 6:30 p.m. at YWCA Enid, 525 S. Quincy, will be an opportunity for viewing DVDs, listening to professionals discussing issues such as the war on drugs, racism, new Jim Crow laws, re-entry from prison, criminal justice, mental health and advocacy.

CrossWalk United Church, University Place Christian Church and YWCA have joined together to sponsor these restorative justice sessions.  

At 6:30 tonight will be “The New Jim Crow Laws” presentation by the Rev. Jesse Jackson. Jackson is senior pastor of East Sixth Street Christian Church in Oklahoma City.

He is a graduate of Phillips Theological Seminary and is the incoming president of the National Convocation of Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ), a national organization of African-American Disciples.

He led a workshop on “The New Jim Crow” at the recent leadership training school at First Christian Church, Oklahoma City.

Michelle Alexander’s book “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness” offers an analysis of the war on drugs and the effects it has had on individuals, families and communities.
