UPDATE: 14 NW Oklahoma counties in severe T-storm watch

ENID, Okla. — The National Weather Service has placed 14 northern Oklahoma counties under a severe thunderstorm watch, including Garfield County.

The Storm Prediction Center is Norman issued the watch at 2:40 p.m. for Alfalfa, Craig, Garfield, Grant, Harper, Kay, Major, Noble, Nowata, Osage, Pawnee, Washington, Woods and Woodward counties. The watch will remain in effect until 11 p.m. this evening.

Mike Honigsberg, Enid/Garfield County certified director of emergency management, warned county residents of possible severe this afternoon and evening that could include golf-ball sized hail, winds in excess of 60 mph and an isolated tornado.

The National Weather Service has also placed portions of Northwest Oklahoma under a flash flood watch beginning at 1 p.m. through Tuesday afternoon.

Honigsberg warned residents to avoid any unnecessary travel in the event of severe weather.
