ENID, Okla. — An icy bridge caused a collision Saturday morning in Major County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Alberto De La Pena Rivas, of Chihuahua, Mexico, was southbound on U.S. 281, 21⁄4 miles south of Chester, when he lost control of his 1997 Ford Ranger.

Rivas’ truck went sideways on the bridge and was struck by a 2012 Chevrolet Cruz Eco driven by Wendell L. Hedges, 87, of Seiling.

Hedges suffered head and arm injuries and was transported to Seiling Community Hospital. He later was transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Rivas was not injured.

The cause of the collision is listed as “unsafe speed — ice on roadway,” according to the report.

Both men were wearing their seat belts.
