Group to yarnstorm Enid during public art project

ENID, Okla. — Armed with hooks and needles, a group of crafty knitters and crocheters are organizing to make over Enid.

The group, calling themselves the Prairie Yarn Stormers, plans to yarnstorm Enid as a public art project. Prairie Yarn Stormers is open to all interested knitters and crocheters. Meetings will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 10 a.m. to noon on Fridays at Creative Arts Enid, 217 N. Washington.

Upcoming special events include Knit and Pitch at the Ballpark on May 30, and Knit in Public for First Friday at the Mid-Block Walkway, 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 7.

In the future — on a date being kept a closely-guarded secret — the group plans to yarnstorm Enid as a public art project.

Teams being formed include the Lamp Post Team, Gazebo Team, Public Art Team, Tree Team, Safety Barrier Team, Railing and Bench Team, Insect and Bird Team, and Flower and Heart Team.

Don’t know how to knit or crochet? No problem. Barb Benson and Paula Nightengale are teaching classes at Creative Arts Enid.

Besides people who knit or crochet, Prairie Yarn Stormers seeks yarn, needles and hooks, unfinished objects, sweaters, scarves, shawls, afghans, baby blankets and the like.

A Facebook page, Yarnover Enid, is dedicated to the group and sharing information on activities. It is found at Yarnover Enid is sponsored by Creative Arts Enid and Park Avenue Thrift. Those visiting the site are asked to like those pages as well.
