West Pine blaze under investigation by Enid Fire Dept.

ENID, Okla. — Enid Fire Department is investigating what sparked a fire Wednesday that caused significant damage to a home on West Pine, along with damage to neighboring structures.

The fire started Wednesday morning in a garage-type storage building and spread to the home.

Firefighters responded at 10:56 a.m. to 412 W. Pine and found the garage fully involved, Assistant Fire Marshall Todd Hays said. By 12:30 p.m., firefighters had the blaze controlled and still were on scene as of 4:30 p.m., monitoring for hot spots.

“The garage was fully involved on our arrival and had extended to the house by the time we got hoses stretched out,” he said.

Firefighters focused their efforts on saving the home, which Hays said had been converted into a four-plex of apartments, three of which were occupied.

The siding of the home to the east melted as firefighters fought the blaze. Hays said the home to the east otherwise was unaffected by the fire.

A garage to the west of 412 W. Pine also suffered minor damage, a few broken windows and charring to an eave of the building, Hays said.

Cimarron Valley Chapter of American Red Cross was called to the scene to aid those displaced by the fire, but occupants were able to make their own arrangements for lodging.

Hays said the fire spread from the garage structure to the attic of 412 W. Pine.

“The majority of that fire was confined in the attic,” he said, noting there was a gable window on the front of the house firefighters were able to open. “We opened the ceiling on the second floor.”
