Garber Public Schools’ science labs get a $10,000 grant from Monsanto

GARBER, Okla. — Garber Public Schools’ science labs are growing, thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Monsanto Fund.

The grant is through the America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education program. Farmers nominated school districts, then districts completed an online application.

Finalists were chosen by math and science teachers from school districts not eligible for the grants, and winners by the America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education Advisory Council.

More than 1,000 school districts applied. Grants were $10,000 and $25,000.

“These funds and the science equipment they will provide will make a world of difference for our students,” said Jim Lamer, Garber superintendent “It is important that students in rural schools have access to the same learning tools that students in larger districts have. This grant puts us one step closer to ensuring that our kids don’t miss a thing.”

“Getting that money is great for us because it will give us the chance to buy some equipment and supplies we would not have been able to purchase without it,” said Marc Hatton, Garber High School principal. “We’ll probably divvy it up between the high school and the junior high.”

“We are incredibly grateful to America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education for granting us these funds,” Lamer said. “We have finally been able to make a commitment to improve our science department.”

Another program of the Monsanto Fund is America’s Farmers Grow Communities, which gives winning farmers the opportunity to direct a $2,500 donation to their favorite community nonprofit organization in their county.

Farmers can participate in this program through Nov. 30 by visiting www.grow communities.com.
