Enid businesses continue to have strong sales

ENID, Okla. — Enid cash registers continued to ring up strong sales, based on December sales tax distributions to cities and towns from Oklahoma Tax Commission.

The current figures represent local tax receipts from spending in late October and early November. Net taxable sales in Enid during that period were more than $10 million higher compared to the same period in 2011.

According to OTC figures, net taxable sales in Enid during the period were up 16.5 percent over sales during the same period in 2011, continuing a strong series of reports this year.

The city of Enid received $2,505,933 from OTC, an increase of $354,540 from last year’s receipts, continuing the upward trend, which has seen Enid’s receipts up every month this year.

Most county seats across northwest Oklahoma also saw hefty increases in net taxable sales and sales tax receipts.

The town of Cherokee again saw an increase of more than 100 percent. Cherokee, county seat of Alfalfa County, recorded an increase of 133.7 percent — $2,208,246 — in net taxable sales for the October-November period compared to a year ago. Alva in Woods County saw an increase of 67.1 percent — $4,606,329 — for the period.

Other net taxable sales increases by percentage and dollar amounts for county seats in northwest Oklahoma were: Fairview, 52.1 percent, $1,440,125; Kingfisher, 6 percent, $439,133; Medford, 53.6 percent, $439,550; and Woodward, 22.6 percent, $5,880,685.

Watonga recorded a decline in net taxable sales for the period. Watonga, the Blaine County seat, saw a decline of 8 percent, or $240,860 less in sales.

Statewide, OTC returned $128,288,777 in sales tax collections to 510 cities and towns, reflecting an increase of $11,516,413 from what was distributed in December last year.

Garfield County saw an increase in tax receipts, too. The county received $307,319 this month, compared to $252,329 last year.
