HCS students stay active

— Carol Perry’s Hillsdale Christian School (HCS) first grade class gave a chapel program March 6. Salutes to the American and Christian flags and to the Bible were led by Keyle Kehnemund, Branson Stevens and Lanie Klein. Brooklyn Osburn gave the opening prayer. Twelve of the students performed a skit about Daniel and the Lion’s Den. Narrators were Brooklyn Osburn, Lanie Klein and Morgan Hayes. Actors and their parts were: King Darius — Macguire Arnold; Manager — Whaetly Chaloupek; Daniel — Branson Stevens; Angel — Molly Carpenter; Lions — Kember Sloat, Amilee Kehnemund and Keyle Kehnemund; Guards —Joshua Taylor and Nathan Smith. Following the skit, the class sang “Daniel in the Lion’s Den.”


Renae Haymaker, HCS principal, awarded eight students an award for orderliness at the chapel March 6. Those receiving the awards were: Grace Voth, sixth grade; Emma Watkins, fifth grade; Garrett Slaving, fourth grade; Giovanni Bartolozzi, third grade; Taryn Gray, second grade; Branson Stevens, first grade; Emily Slaving, kindergarten; and Harrison Epps, pre-kindergarten.

Teachers spoke about each student and explained why he or she received the award.


Gretchen Streck’s HCS second grade class took its monthly mission trip to Hope Outreach on March 7. The students sang for the people at the Day Center. They also helped unfold newspapers to be used at the thrift store. Students donated floor cleaner and newspapers.


Nineteen HCS students in grades 1-6 competed in the Association of Christian Schools International Speech Meet March 8 in Oklahoma City. Grace Voth received a medal and 1st place; Jessica Corey received a medal and 2nd place; and Noah Voth received a medal and 2nd place.
