Ringwood girl killed in Major County crash

ENID, Okla. — A Ringwood girl was killed after a vehicle she was a passenger in struck a tree Saturday night in Major County.

According to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, Betsy Sue Jantz, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at U.S. 412, one mile south of Oklahoma 8.

Jonathan Lynn Koehn, 18, of Burns, Kan., was driving northbound in a 2013 Kia Optima at 11:20 p.m., according to the report. He had two passengers: Betsy Sue Jantz and Christopher Scott Jantz, 16, also of Ringwood.

According to the report, the vehicle left the roadway on the right side for an unknown reason and struck a tree.

Betsy Sue Jantz, who was in the front passenger seat, was pinned for six minutes, according to the report. She was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Fairview Funeral Home.

Koehn was transported to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and admitted in critical condition with unlisted injuries. Christopher Scott Jantz was airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City and admitted in critical condition with internal trunk and leg injuries.

Betsy Sue Jantz and Koehn were wearing their seat belts, but Christopher Scott Jantz was not, according to the report.

The condition of the driver and cause of collision are under investigation, according to OHP.
