Youth volunteers and senior yards sought for project

ENID, Okla. — Every year since 1963, May has been a month to appreciate and celebrate older adults and their contribution to our communities.

Northern Oklahoma Development Authority’s Area Agency on Aging is a member of the newly formed Chore Consortium. The consortium’s goal is to tap into the community strengths and enhance lives of Enid’s Golden Okies, Oklahomans who are 60 and older.

More than 8,500 Golden Okies live in Enid, and not everyone is able to maintain their yards as they once did.

At 8:30 a.m. June 1 in the NODA parking lot at 2901 N. Van Buren, the Chore Consortium will begin the Unleash the Power of Age campaign with free coffee and doughnuts followed by yard work for Golden Okies.

Any Golden Okies in Enid who need help with yard work can call Brandi Atkinson at 237-2236 to schedule a June 1 visit from the Chore Team.

Any youth group, civic group, organization, family or individual is invited to bring a lawn mower, rake, trash bags and sun screen to help.
