ENID, Okla. —
The sign is on the building and appointments are being taken for Great Salt Plains Health Center’s soon-to-open Enid clinic.
Tim Starkey, executive director of the Cherokee-based, federally funded community health center, spent much of last week getting things ready for the clinic to open.
“We’ve been here four of the last five days trying to get the computer network and phone system working,” Starkey said.
Work on the building also has included touching up paint, setting up examining rooms, installing the sign on the front of the building and putting lettering on the door.
“We’ll see patients March 31,” Starkey said.
Starkey said Dr. Keenan Ferguson, who practiced in Enid before going to the Cherokee health center, will staff the Enid office. Ferguson will be assisted by Tobi Bratten, a nurse practitioner whom some patients might remember from her days working at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
Bratten, who finished advanced nurse practitioner training in December, will be on staff part-time until summer, then will join the clinic full-time.
Great Salt Plains offers comprehensive primary care, dental care and behavioral health care to its patients. Enid patients in need of dental and behavioral services will be referred to the Cherokee office until the health center can afford to add those services in Enid.
“We offer sliding fee discounts to low-income patients,” Starkey said.
To qualify for discounts, the patient’s income must be below 200 percent of the federal poverty level, Starkey said.
Great Salt Plains formed as an organization in 2007. The health center opened in 2008, providing services to residents of Cherokee, Alfalfa County and the surrounding area. It moved into a remodeled and larger building in 2010.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Enid clinic, 1101 E. Broadway, is slated for 10:30 a.m. March 26.
Hours of operation in Enid will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Appointments can be made by calling (580) 233-2900. The phone is answered 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays and Fridays, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.
