Broadway Tower Hotel offers tours, food tonight

ENID, Okla. — The staff of the new and renovated Broadway Tower Hotel had a sort of vivid anxiety Thursday.

With about 24 hours before the first real expo at the new downtown hotel, owner Johnny Peart and his employees were working to complete the final touches.

Starting at 6 p.m. today, First Friday gives Enid the first look at what Peart’s dream will look like. Visitors will get a chance to tour a model suite, replete with elegant design touches that signify, in Peart’s words, “old-time Enid.”

The avenue in front of the tower will be blocked off during the monthly First Friday celebration.

“It’s kind of like a street party, I guess. Just enjoy yourself, relax and see what we intend to build,” Peart said.

There still are several tenants in the office space above the ninth floor. By December, Peart hopes to open the first of more than 70 hotel rooms, including several suites like the one on display this evening.

“It’s going to be an interesting place to stay. It’s geared toward a destination hotel, rather than just being a hotel to stay in,” he said. “We kind of like that twist on it. We feel like there’s a lot of support for that, considering it is an historic hotel downtown.”

A major draw to non-tenants of Broadway Tower likely will be a restaurant and lounge on the first floor. Today also is the grand opening of the two establishments.

“We intend to let people experience what we’re creating here, so that will create a buzz and create a snowball effect so people will think, ‘Yeah, let’s spend time there.’” Peart said.

Broadway Cafe & Lounge and DinEnid Eatery both are owned and operated by Peart. Other retailers are interested in having shops in the ground floor, he said.

At the First Friday grand opening, DinEnid will be providing select items from its menu for free until 9 p.m. In the lounge across the hall, musicians will perform past then.

Free beer, wine and margaritas will be served while supplies last, Peart said.

Broadway Tower Hotel is located at 114 E. Broadway.
