ENID, Okla. — Enid’s first baby of 2014 was born at 9:14 a.m. New Year’s Day in the birthday center at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.

Ian Zane Montez made his appearance at a hefty 6 pounds, 7.9 ounces and 19.5 inches long.

His parents are Leah Shifflett and Jacob Montez of Okeene.

“I’m really excited,” Shifflett said.

“I was ready to start the year with the new baby,” Jacob Montez said.

His parents knew beforehand that the baby would be a boy.

The blue-eyed, brown-haired cutie is the first child for his parents, but not the first grandchild for Peggy and Frankie Montez.

“This is my fourth grandchild,” Peggy Montez said. “I also have nine stepgrandchildren.”

Ian’s other grandparents are Lou Ann King, of Tulsa, and Clint Shifflett, of Oakwood.
