Man in critical condition after motorcycle accident

ENID — A Fairview man was seriously injured early Sunday morning when his motorcyle struck a curb and he was thrown more than 50 feet.

Matthew Karl Gard, 47, was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition at press time.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported a 2007 Harley Davidson, ridden by Gard, was in Meno westbound on U.S. 412 at 1:55 a.m. Sunday when the motorcycle exited to the right, striking a curb. The motorcyle slid on its side before flipping and ejecting Gard 57 feet. The motorcycle traveled an additional 15 feet before coming to a rest.

Gard was admitted to the hospital with head, trunk and leg injuries.

The cause of the accident was listed on the OHP report as excessive speed. Gard was not wearing a helmet, and the report stated there was an odor of alcohol.
