Enid man arraigned for felony child abuse for striking a 20-month-old

ENID, Okla. — A 27-year-old Enid man was arraigned Thursday on a felony count of child abuse.

Aaron Charles White faces up to life imprisonment on the charge of allegedly striking a 20-month-old child.

According to an affidavit filed in the case, Enid Police Department Detective Justin Scaggs was sent to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center June 12 after a mother brought her son in for treatment from injuries she said he received from White, the mother’s boyfriend.

The mother told Skaggs on Wednesday afternoon, she was lying down while White put the children down for a nap, according to the affidavit.

She heard three spanks and her son began to cry.

When she asked White about the situation, he told her he spanked her son twice on the bottom and smacked him once on the back of the head because he was not listening, according to the affidavit.

She said her son stopped crying so she laid back down.

Later in the day, she noticed marks on the side of her son’s head and took him to the hospital, according to the affidavit.

She said White apologized to her, claiming the marks were an accident.

Dr. Seth Switzer examined the boy and found no other injuries but the red and bruising marks on the child’s left cheek and head, according to the affidavit.

Skaggs noted in his affidavit the marks appeared to be caused by being struck by an open hand.

White is free on a $10,000 bond and ordered to return to court July 22 for a bond appearance.
