EFD responds to an attic fire

ENID, Okla. — Enid Fire Department responded to an attic fire Saturday night at a residence at 1214 E. Maine.

Firefighters received a dispatch call at 11:59 p.m., and upon arriving at the scene, the resident told them smoke was filling the house, according to an EFD report.

Crews opened a door to the attic in the master bedroom closet and saw it was completely full of smoke, according to the report.

A firefighter was able to put out the fire in the attic, but was able to go no farther, so crews had to open holes in the kitchen ceiling to extinguish the hot spots.

They left at 1:41 a.m. Sunday, more than 11⁄2 hours later.

Damages were estimated at $5,100, according to the report. Value of the property was estimated at $25,000.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire still is under investigation, but firefighters suspect it was due to faulty electrical wiring.
