EPD K-9 officer helps arrest alleged burglar

ENID, Okla. — A 16-year-old suspected burglar lost a race with one of Enid’s finest animals. The youth was arrested Friday night after police said he was burglarizing vehicles outside Hobby Lobby at Sunset Plaza.

According to a report, police were alerted at about 8 p.m. someone was breaking into vehicles. Once they arrived, officers briefly questioned a juvenile, who allegedly then ran from police.

A K-9 unit was available, and officers warned the dog would be unleashed unless the suspect stopped. When he did not stop, the police dog was allowed to chase him down.

Officers noted minor injuries to the teen because of his interaction with the dog. Life EMS was on scene and paramedics cleaned minor scrapes and bite marks. but no further treatment was necessary.

Police recovered stolen property from the suspect identified as items that had been taken from cars in the area.

He was booked into the Community Intervention Center on complaints of auto burglary, knowingly concealing stolen property, resisting arrest, public intoxication and possession of tobacco.
