Sister plant in Tennessee is coming under GEFCO name

ENID, Okla. — An oilfield services manufacturing plant in Tennessee is integrating with Enid-based GEFCO.

Both GEFCO and Astec Loudon are subsidiaries of Astec Industries.

GEFCO spokeswoman Heidi Gore said there will be no negative impact on the workers at either plant.

“It potentially means more work, more productivity for us here at our plant,” Gore said. “We’re looking at it as something that’s going to build our business and increase our productivity.”

GEFCO bills itself as a world leader in the design and manufacture of portable drilling rigs and related equipment.

The Loudon facility manufactures the GEFCO 500K, described in company promotional material as a vertical drilling rig. Workers in Loudon also make the ASTEC DP 2000 Double Pumper; both are products for the oil-and-gas industry and both locations manufacture equipment that target similar markets and products.

“The goal of both plants is to combine our efforts so we are able to respond and react to the market in a quicker fashion,” said Aaron Harmon, president of GEFCO.

The two plants combined have a total manufacturing capacity of 750,000 square feet and employ more than 300 people. After the integration, the company expects bigger business.

“It really is looking at it as an opportunity to grow our business, not to shift business or shift productivity, even. It’s just really something that we feel is going to be beneficial to both plants and all the product lines that we service right now,” Gore said Thursday.

Luis Aguilera, director of manufacturing for both locations, lauded the move.

“The integration of the Enid and Loudon facilities will allow GEFCO to provide additional products that meet or exceed our quality standards as well as our customer’s requirements through continuous improvement of our products, processes and services,” he said.

For more than 81 years, GEFCO has provided equipment to sites in more than 100 countries, according to a company press release.
