Skatetown to host all-night skate

Skatetown will host its 12th annual New Year’s Eve all-night skate, from 8 p.m. Dec. 31 to 6 a.m. Jan. 1 at Skatetown, 905 Overland Trail.

Skatetown owners Harry and Veronica Hunt host the all-night party every year to provide a fun and safe way for area youth and families to bring in the new year.

“New Year’s can be a very dangerous time for young people, with all the parties that have alcohol present,” Harry Hunt said. “We endeavor to show young people that you can have a great time bringing in the New Year in a fun and safe way.”

The all-night party includes more than 200 balloons filled with prizes to be dropped from the ceiling during the night. Door prizes are donated by local businesses, with free hats and noisemakers, games and prizes all night long.

“The kids love the Pepsi chug contest and the pie-eating contest — no hands, of course,” Veronica Hunt said. “It is great to see so many kids and teens having so much fun. They love winning the door prizes, which are donated by local businesses.”

The event is open to all ages, and parents are free to watch or come in and check on their kids throughout the night. Some parents actually stay and skate with their kids.

Advance tickets are on sale, which allow customers to save money, not have to wait in line, and receive free pizza and a drink.

For questions about the all-night skate, contact Harry or Veronica Hunt at (580) 233-5360, or stop by Skatetown. A message on Skatetown's machine said advance tickets but no coupons would be accepted. The cost at the door is $25 for the all-night session. Parents can watch children skate or check on them periodically throughout the evening.

If your business has not yet been contacted and you would like to make a prize donation, call and Skatetown will send someone by to pick up the donation.
