Deciding the future: NOC town hall meeting Wednesday

ENID, Okla. — The second of three town hall meetings to plan the future of Northern Oklahoma College will take place Wednesday afternoon.

The NOC strategic planning process is entering phase two, when participants will discuss a proposed new mission statement and strategic priorities drafted with input gathered during October meetings at all three campuses in Enid, Tonkawa and Stillwater.

“We will be reviewing a draft for the new mission statement,” said Pam Stinson, chair of strategic planning task force and associate vice president for academic affairs.

About 60 people attended the Enid meeting, led by Sal Rinella and Jolene Koester, from Penson Associates, a California-based research and consultation firm working with the college to develop a five-year plan.

The meeting is open to alumni, faculty, staff, and community supporters.

“The essence of our mission is going to be the same — making education accessible and affordable for students in the area,” Stinson said.

Wednesday’s meeting will be 3-5 p.m. in Zollers, Room 110, on the Enid campus.

Meetings taking place at the same time on the Stillwater and Tonkawa campus will be connected to the meeting on the Enid campus by means of teleconference.

At the October meeting in Enid, NOC President Cheryl Evans said the goal is to have a plan that is inclusive, meaningful and guides both policy and financial decisions in the future.

“We want to listen to you as stakeholders,” Evans said. “We also want to identify what might be potential barriers in the future.”

Penson Associates will guide and facilitate the conversations that will give rise to the finished plan. A third town hall meeting will be at the end of January, and the completed plan will be released in late April or May 2013.

NOC officials request reservations be made by today so resource materials are available to everyone attending. To RSVP, call (580) 628-6210. For those unable to attend, suggestions may be submitted by mail to NOC, P.O. Box 310, Tonkawa, OK 74653, attention Dr. Pam Stinson.
