Durkee assumes command of Navy task force in Sicily

ENID, Okla. — A Billings native has been named commodore of Commander Task Force 67 at Naval Air Station Sigonella, Sicily.

Navy Capt. Bryan W. Durkee assumed command recently.

CTF-67 “plans, manages and coordinates tactical and logistical support for deployed maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft forces in support of airborne anti-submarine warfare, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance, and theater security cooperation in the European and African theaters,” according to the NAS Sigonella website.

The task force supports U.S. Sixth Fleet, Naval Forces Europe, Naval Forces Africa, NATO and unified commanders.

Durkee received his commission through University of Oklahoma ROTC.

He received his wings as a naval aviator in 1997.

He has more than 2,900 flight hours, including more than 400 combat hours, in maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft.

His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Strike/Flight Service Achievement Medal and Navy Achievement Medal.

He has participated in Operations Allied Force, Northern Watch, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn, Nomad Shadow, Inca Gold, Odyssey Dawn and Unified Protector.

He previously commanded Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron Two (VQ-2).

He is a graduate of Joint Aviation Electronic Warfare School and Naval War College.

His parents are Bruce and Karen Durkee, of Billings. His grandmother is Mary Durkee, of Billings.
