Conference to teach youth about being entrepreneurs

ENID, Okla. — The Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation conference at Autry Technology Center Tuesday through Thursday will offer youth 9-17 the opportunity to learn about being entrepreneurs as well as pitch their ideas to a panel of judges for possible prizes.

A one-day workshop for would-be entrepreneurs will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. In an age of instant access to information and growing numbers of workers needed in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields, today’s youth need to be more than consumers, they need to be creators.

Workshop participants will have the chance to learn about starting a business and developing an entrepreneurial mindset, as well as the opportunity to present their idea before a panel of judges. This workshop will include topics including creativity and idea development, entrepreneurial skill sets and character, finance and budgeting, marketing, networking, and concept presentation.

On Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, Autry staff and judges will be available to work with participants.

Each participant will pitch their idea to a panel of judges on Thursday afternoon, much like the television show, “Shark Tank.” At 7 p.m. Thursday, prizes will be awarded in categories of idea creativity, chance of success and presentation.

Cost is $15. For more information or to register, contact Cara Carson at (580) 242-2750.
