Children hurt in Norman bus crash

NORMAN, Okla. — About a dozen children were transported to Norman Regional Hospital after a bus accident just before noon today, according to Norman Police.

Capt. Tom Easley said around 12:30 p.m. there were no serious injuries reported after the collision near West Lindsey Street and College Avenue. Approximately 12 to 15 children were transported to the hospital, however none of them sustained injuries, according to Norman Public Schools Public Information Officer Shelly Hickman.

The children were from the YMCA and on their way to Reaves Park, according to Transcript photographer Kyle Phillips. There were two vehicles involved in addition to the bus, he said.

The bus driver was not cited for the accident, Hickman said.

"It is Norman Public Schools understanding that a blue SUV struck another vehicle and that led to the collision," Hickman said.

YMCA is expected to release a statement later today regarding the collision.
