Enid will celebrate MLK this weekend

The 26th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration will be held Saturday and Sunday.

A commemorative march will start at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grayson Missionary Baptist Church, 334 E. Garriott.  Refreshments will be served following the march.

The annual MLK Holiday Celebration will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Central Assembly of God’s multi-purpose building, 1202 W. Oxford. This year’s theme is “Dream On. Lean Forward. Be the Change.”

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission will present Diversity Awards to recognize accomplishments and sustained commitment by individuals, community organizations, businesses or nonprofit groups in the area. The awards will honor those who have promoted diversity, human rights and cultural understanding in Garfield County and the Enid community. Winners will be announced at the celebration.

The commission also sponsors poster and essay contests for students. Winners will be announced and displayed at the celebration.

Sponsors are needed to assist with costs involved in planning and holding the celebration. Donations are needed for an honorarium for speakers and to purchase contest prizes. All individuals or businesses that contribute will be recognized in the program and through credit listings on the production of the event, which will air on PEGASYS.

For information or to donate, contact staff liaison Stephanie Carr at 234-0400, extension 7211, or email scarr@enid.org.
