Several local people were honored last week by Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services during the annual Substance Abuse Prevention and Recovery Conference.
Vance Air Force Base 71st Flying Training Wing was awarded Best Collaboration Across Systems & Community Partner Agencies for its involvement in working to increase awareness of underage drinking and prescription drug use, including its partnership with PreventionWorkz Inc. on prescription drug take-back efforts.
The base’s Demand Reduction Program Manager Yvonne Lewis-Odom, with the Drug Demand Reduction Program, organizes Drug Enforcement Agency take-back programs in the community.
Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dariel Momsen received the Best Law Enforcement Achievement award for partnering with the ABLE Commission and local Drug & Alcohol Coalition volunteers to conduct more than 189 alcohol compliance checks.
Dena Patterson, with the PreventionWorkz Regional Prevention Center, received the Preventionist of the Year award for her work on prescription drug abuse prevention efforts in Garfield County.
