Timberlake to show ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’

HELENA — Dinner and Christmas cheer are on tap at Timberlake High School next week.

On Dec. 18, Timberlake after-prom committee will host a chili supper in the high school cafeteria. From 5 to 7 p.m., chili or Frito chili pie, dessert and a drink will be served up. Cost is $5 for adults. Seniors and children under 12 are $3.

Seasonal entertainment begins at 7 p.m. when the high school drama class presents “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play.”

“This beloved American holiday classic comes to captivating life as a live 1940s radio broadcast,” said Laurie Gwinn, English, German and drama teacher.

Gwinn said the play has been rewritten from the classic 1946 movie version, but remains a heartwarming Christmas tale. Interest in the play attracted 10 additional students to help out the seven originally enrolled in drama class.

The story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life on Christmas Eve. The small-town man’s life seems so desperate he contemplates suicide. He had always wanted to leave  Bedford Falls to see the world, but circumstances and his own good heart led him to stay. He sacrificed his education for his brother’s, kept the family-run savings and loan afloat, protected the town from a greedy banker and married his childhood sweetheart.

He prepares to jump from a bridge, but his guardian angel intercedes and shows him what life would have become for the residents of Bedford Falls had he never lived.

Admission to the play is $3 for adults and $1 for students.
