Kudos: Donations appreciated

Thank you to the Enid News & Eagle and your readers for your generous donations to the Enid Food 4 Kids and school pantries through the 2012 Community Christmas Card. This year’s donation total of $8,675 is remarkable. What a compliment to you, your readers and our community.

The Enid News & Eagle continues to tell the story of those in need in Enid and the surround area. It is an important, if not difficult, story to tell, since more than 539 children are in need of food each weekend. Through the generosity of you and your readers, and the efficiency of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and its Food 4 Kids program, 43 children will be fed each weekend. Students at Enid High School, Longfellow Middle School, Emerson Middle School and Chisholm High School also will benefit from your continuing support through the food pantries in their buildings.

Because of that support, and that of so many in this community, no child will need to go hungry over a weekend. That is an astounding accomplishment, yet one that is basic to our community. If each child is to reach their potential, they must be given every tool to do so. It is really quite simple: A child must be well fed in order to learn. And when that child learns, they are better able to grow into productive individuals. Everyone wins.

Thank you to each and every donor, and a special thank you to Becky Allen and all those who helped coordinate this effort.

So, each weekend, as your readers go about their lives, I hope they will remember that a child is eating because of their generosity. Thank you for making this possible for so many Enid area students.
