Community

On June 27, the wind blew in and the old Pfeffer Hotel and Bank building came tumbling down in Covington between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. The two-story brick building was built in 1904, and located at 4th and Main. It’s now just a pile of old bricks. This bank and one on the other side of the street were robbed the same day on Aug. 25, 1926, by the Kimes Brothers and their gang. Two cars left town leisurely and the bandits split the money before they parted company at the two-mile corner south of town, without leaving a trace for officers to follow.

Church

First Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School 5:30-8:30 p.m. July 8-12, for children 4 years old through sixth grade. The theme is Colossal Coaster. All are welcome.

July 28 through Aug. 11, Covington United Methodist Church and St. John’s Lutheran will combine their VBS. It will be held at the Methodist Church 6:30-8:30 p.m. The theme is Kingdom Rock. All children pre-kindergarten through sixth grade are welcome to attend. For information, call Pam Grantz at 580-554-7899.
