24 area juniors are attending annual Oklahoma Girls State this week at OU

Twenty-four high school juniors from Enid and the surrounding area will attend Oklahoma Girls State this week at the University of Oklahoma.

The event starts today and continues through Saturday.

Girls State is a program of the national American Legion Auxiliary. Selected high school junior girls spend one week in a hands-on study of government. Two girls from each state’s program will be selected to attend Girls Nation in Washington, D.C., this summer.

Argonne Unit 4 in Enid sponsors all the girls from Enid High School who attend, and the girls from surrounding schools are sponsored by other organizations.

• Kaitlyn Beegle, Enid High School. Beegle has been a varsity cheerleader of three years, letterman, National Honor Society member and EHS Show Choir member. She is a member of Upward Bound, a college preparatory academy at Northern Oklahoma College.

• Rachel Meyer, Enid High School. She is active in band and show choir, is a junior class officer and a member of National Honor Society. She is a member of Central Christian Church, where she is active in youth group, as well as a member of the regional youth council. She is the daughter of Brian and Becky Meyer.

• Christie McMeans, Enid High School. She is a member of National Honor Society, has been active in EHS Show Choir, qualified for the state swim meet three consecutive years, assisted with drama productions and is active in her church and mission work. She has volunteered with programs for deployed military spouses and children. McMeans assists with Horn of Plenty food drives and Habitat for Humanity work.

• Grace Enmeier, Enid High School. She is a student council officer, member of National Honor Society, member of Platinum E Community Service Club, varsity cheerleader, and member of the volleyball, basketball and soccer teams. She is a member of First United Methodist Church and sings in the youth choir. She is the daughter of Troy and Martie Oyler Enmeier.

• Ivey Dyson, Enid High School. She is a member of National Honor Society, National Forensics League, Student Council and Show Choir. She has performed in EHS’s musical productions of “The Wiz.” Ivey is the daughter of Tammy Hromas.

• Katherine Jones, Enid High School. She is the daughter of Pierce and Janet Jones. She is a member of National Honor Society, National Forensics League and Show Choir and participates frequently at Gaslight Theatre productions. A member of Central Christian Church, she serves on its Regional Youth Council.

• Caroline Bullard, Chisholm High School. Bullard said the classes she has taken in high school are building blocks for her future.

• Morgan Broadbent, Chisholm High School. She looks forward to Girls State, saying it is an opportunity to step out of her comfort zone, meet new people and enhance her leadership skills.

• Shealynn Garrett, Garber High School. She has played basketball, softball, track and is physical trainer for the football team. She plans to further her career and education in the medical field. She takes health career classes at Autry Technology Center.

• Stacia Bradford, Garber High School. She is the daughter of David and Lesa Bradford. She is a member of National Honor Society and on Principal’s Honor Roll. She plays for the softball team and shows animals in FFA. She plans to attend Oklahoma State University.

• Jessica Beebe, Garber High School. She is on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll and is active in FCCLA, FCA, National Honor Society and Pep Club. She plays softball and basketball and is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Enid. She is the daughter of Tim and Bengi Beebe.

• McKenna Morrison, Drummond High School. She plays basketball and participates in FFA. She has been on the Quiz Bowl Academic Team since elementary school.

Also attending are Victoria Kimbrell, of Cimarron; Olivia Felber and Hannah Wuerflein, of Kremlin-Hillsdale; Katherine Irwin, Hannah Jackson, Andrea Messenger and Jaid Owens, of Oklahoma Bible Academy; Kelsey Conaway, of Ringwood; and Ricki Hess, Peyton Isbell, McKinzie McElroy and Jessica Solis, all of Waukomis.
