Man arraigned on lewd acts felony

ENID, Okla. — An 80-year-old Enid man was arraigned Thursday on a felony count of lewd acts to a child under 16 for allegedly grabbing a 14-year-old girl’s breast.

Richard Lee Wood faces no less than three years or no more than 20 years in prison if convicted of the charge.

According to an affidavit filed in the case, a report was made with Enid Police Department April 10 concerning the possible sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl.

A Department of Human Services Child Welfare Services worker had begun an investigation after learning of the incident from another child, according to the affidavit. That girl told the worker she was at a birthday party at Wood’s home sometime in March and she saw him grab the 14-year-old’s breast.

She said Wood and the teen were in the kitchen and she walked in and saw the incident occur, according to the affidavit. She said Wood saw her when he grabbed the teen’s breast and gave her “an evil look.”

Detective Tim Doyle interviewed the 14-year-old April 11.

The teen told Doyle there was a party at Wood’s residence March 9 or 10. She said she was in the kitchen with Wood while he was cooking.

She said the Wood was talking about some onions he was cutting up and he grabbed her breast with his hand, according to the affidavit. She said she saw the other girl witness the incident and later told her Wood does things like that sometimes.

The girl also told Doyle she remembers Wood began the inappropriate touching when she was about 6 or 7 years old, according to the affidavit. She said she remembers him touching her and him telling her to touch him.

She said most of the time if she refused to do something then she would get in trouble, according to the affidavit. She said Wood has told her she needs to keep this a secret because he would get into trouble if anyone found out, according to the affidavit.

After speaking with the 14-year-old girl, Doyle spoke with Wood.

Wood said the incident in the kitchen was being told incorrectly, according to the affidavit. He said he never grabbed the teen on the breast. He said he was trying to get her to smell his hands, because he was cutting onions, and she was blocking her face with her hands so he poked her in the chest and shoulders with a finger.

Wood denied he ever grabbed the teen on her breast and also denied all other allegations, according to the affidavit.

Wood is set for a preliminary hearing on the charge May 30.
