Christmas assistance: 5 charities to help struggling local families

ENID — Five Enid charities will provide Christmas assistance for struggling Enid families, but applications must be made in a timely manner to qualify.

Additionally, each child can be signed up at only one agency. Agencies will be cross-checking names for duplications. The Enid area Christmas gift programs, and what will be provided include:

• Salvation Army will provide gifts for children up to 12 and some families. To apply, bring photo I.D. of the applicant, proof of income and expenses, and proof of age for each child 12 and younger. Applications will be taken from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays beginning Monday through Oct. 21, at Salvation Army, 516 N. Independence. For more information, call (589) 237-1910.

• Toys for Tots will provide toys for needy children. To apply, bring proof of income, in-state photo I.D. of parent or guardian, proof of residence in Garfield County — such as a utility bill — and Social Security cards for each child. Applications will be taken between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, from Tuesday to Dec. 9, at Enid American Legion, 121 W. Oak. • Catholic Charities will provide gifts for children up to 12, but families who received presents from Catholic Charities last year cannot sign up this year. To apply, the applicant needs to bring a photo I.D. of themselves and a birth certificate for each child being signed up. Applications will be taken from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 24-28 at Catholic Charities, 528 W. Broadway. For more information, call (580) 237-7352.

• University Place Christian Church will provide clothing for any age for families that attend the Monday Mamre Meal. Applicants will be asked for Social Security number and identifying information. Gifts will be clothing only and primarily underclothing. Applications will be taken 6-7 p.m. Monday evenings through Oct. 28 at University Place Christian Church, 2107 E. Broadway. • YWCA’s Adopt-a-Family program will provide gifts for families. There is no age limit. Parents or guardians must bring a photo I.D. of themselves and proof of age for children. Applications will be taken from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Nov. 1 to Dec. 9, at the YWCA, 525 S. Quincy. For more information, call (580) 234-7581.
