Kids Central Inc. will close Friday as day care ministry

ENID, Okla. — After 14 years of serving Enid, Kids Central Inc. will close its doors Friday and cease its day care ministry.

The Rev. John McLemore said the decision to close was financial and operations at the Central Christian Church day care were unsustainable.

“That was not a flippant decision and it was made with a lot of sorrow,” McLemore said. “We feel we’ve done an outstanding job for 14 years.

“Hundreds of families have benefited from this ministry, but with the financial analysis, the burdens were just too great for us to overcome.”

He said enrollment at Kids Central Inc. The Learning Station varied from 32 to 52 kids.

CDSA Child Care Finders spent Monday at the day care helping parents find other care options for their children, and help Kids Central staff find placement with other day care operators.

“They assisted parents with placement options,” McLemore said. “They also assisted our teachers with possible relocation. We tried to make this as seamless a transition as possible.”

Kids Central cared for infants and children up to 5 years old and employed about 15, with 12 teachers and three other staff.

“We’re really proud of the ministry we did for 14 years,” McLemore said. “We’ll look for other ministries to replace it.”
