UPDATE: Former district bus driver, coach arraigned on 21 felonies

ENID, Okla. — A former Enid Public Schools bus driver and volunteer coach was arraigned Thursday on 13 counts of lewd molestation, seven counts of use of a computer to commit a felony and a single count of forcible sodomy.

Patrick Leon Watts, 48, appeared via video from Garfield County Detention Facility before Special District Judge Brian Lovell on the 21-count indictment involving four victims.

Watts told Lovell court records have his name, date of birth and address correct. He also asked the judge when he would receive a court-appointed attorney.

Assistant District Attorney Jason Siegars asked the judge to increase Watts’ bond to $10 million based upon the “sheer volume” of counts, punishment ranges and the number of incidents and victims.

Lovell responded: “I’ll admit, quite frankly, ($10 million bond) doesn’t offend me. But I think the $1 million is enough.”

Lovell told Watts to fill out the paperwork for court-appointed counsel and ordered him to return to court Nov. 25 for a bond appearance.

Watts faces up to 20 years in prison on the sodomy charge, three to 20 years on each count of lewd molestation and up to five years in prison and/or a fine of up to $5,000 on each count of use of a computer to commit a felony.

A six-page affidavit filed in the case details interviews with four victims, two from Pratt, Kan., and two from Enid.

Enid Police Department investigators initially prepared an affidavit detailing the incidents involving the teens from Kansas, but prepared a second affidavit when more victims came forward following Watts’ arrest.

EPD Sgt. Bryan Hart said the investigation is ongoing, and he expects there could be more victims. Anyone with information about this case can call Hart or Detective Tim Doyle at (580) 242-7000.

First Kansas report

Enid Police Department detectives arrested Watts last week after being contacted by law enforcement in Kansas. Authorities there received a report of molestation from a 15-year-old boy, according to a six-page affidavit filed in the case.

The boy told investigators in Kansas that Watts was a family friend and coach and had touched him during his eighth-grade year, according to the affidavit. The boy said Watts invited him to an Oklahoma State University football game for the weekend, and they stayed at an Enid motel. The teen said when they checked into the motel Nov. 5, 2011, Watts requested a room with a king-sized bed.

The teen said after the game he and Watts watched “Family Guy” and Watts viewed pornography on his school iPad.

The boy said he went to sleep and woke up in the middle of the night with his underwear down around his legs and Watts was under the covers performing oral sex on him, according to the affidavit. The boy said he got up and cursed at Watts, but Watts rolled over and didn’t say anything to him.

That morning, the teen said he showered with the door locked, but Watts showered with the door open and when he finished, came out into the room nude to dress, according to the affidavit.
