ENID, Okla. —
A 21-year-old Enid man arrested last month after being accused of raping an 11-year-old girl was in court Thursday.
Reed O’Neil Boss was arraigned on a felony count of first-degree rape and faces no less than five years in prison. He already was in custody at Garfield County Detention Facility on unrelated charges when he was arrested on the rape complaint.
Boss appeared before Special District Judge Brian Lovell via video from county jail. He was being held in lieu of $30,000 bond, but Assistant District Attorney Jason Siegars asked bond be increased due to the age of the victim.
Boss shook his head as Lovell increased bond to $50,000. Boss was ordered to return to court Oct. 21 for a bond appearance.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, Enid Police Department was contacted Aug. 31 by the parents of the 11-year-old girl who said they believed she’d had sex with Boss.
The parents explained their daughter had borrowed a relative’s phone to log into Facebook. They said the relative was able to view the girl’s Facebook account and saw messages between her and Boss detailing a sexual experience, according to the affidavit.
Detective John Robinson spoke with the girl Sept. 4 about the case. She said Reed was a friend of an uncle and she met him one day and began messaging on Facebook, according to the affidavit. The girl said Reed had been told by the uncle she was 11 years old.
She said Reed began asking for naked pictures and for sex, according to the affidavit. She said she told Reed no, but he would not listen.
The girl said sometime in June Reed had sex with her, according to the affidavit. She said he did not say anything to her, but she tried to push him off of her and told him to stop.
The girl said Boss messaged her on Facebook asking her if she liked it and if she was ready for round two.
Robinson spoke with Boss Sept. 19 at Garfield County Detention Facility, where he was being held on a charge of possession of a debit card belonging to another, filed earlier this year.
Robinson asked Boss if he knew the girl, and he said he knew her through her uncle. Boss told Robinson the girl had come onto him and at first he really did not know what to do, according to the affidavit. He said she was flirting with him even before they began messaging on Facebook.
Robinson asked how many times they had sex, and Boss said it wasn’t “even a full time,” according to affidavit. Boss said it was both their idea to have sex.
Robinson asked Boss to make a written statement, and Boss wrote: “We were talking, she lead me on and I followed, I did something stupid, I thought she was older. And she gave consent. I thought that was enough. I did not rape her in anyway (sic) and my Facebook messages alone prove that. But I had 2 to 3 min intercourse then I stopped feeling awkward. I tried to again on a later date but it didn’t happen I thought better of it, and now were (sic) here.”
